Letters, receipt, memorandum. 1849-1854.

Six items pertaining to Edward Willis Wollaston: a one page log entitled "Brothers promiscuous log papers", a brief, incomplete log kept by the "brothers" when leaving London on October 14th, 1849 (H 12486); a memo of agreement between Abraham Biggs & Sons, Hobart and Edward Wollaston, Melbourne chemist in relation to renting the shop and house at 128 1/2 Russell Street, Melbourne for one year, August 12th, 1854, as well as a receipt for one week's rent, October 28th 1854 (H 6028); portion of a letter (cross written) addressed to Edward Willis Wollaston from H. Davidson, 1851; a letter with Legislative Assembly Victoria leaderhead to Miss Wollaston from the Hon. William Shiels, August 1886 (H 12487); and a printed advertisement for the Russell Street Dispensary, naming Edward Wollaston as Dispensing Chemist and Druggist (H 5597).

Shiels, William, 1849-1904

William Shiels was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in 1880. He was a noted supporter of women's rights, and in 1889 sucessfully sponsored a major divorce reform bill. Shiels served as Attorney-General and Minister of Railways from 1890-1892. He was the 16th Premier of Victoria, serving from 1892-1893. He remained in politics until shortly before his death in 1904.
